Singapore math ?

Post by *~Summer~* » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:29 pm

I am considering switching our math to Singapore math. Does HOD make teaching Singapore easy? Teaching math is not my strong point. I think I am better at it than I think, I am just not self confident in explaining things right. Also, does HOD Preparing and on give math helps like the younger guides do? I didn't see helps in the samples.

Thanks!

I have been using Singapore Math since the beginning and my oldest is now going into 5th grade. This is my first year with HOD, so I can't answer part of your question, but I used the SM Teacher Guides in 4th grade and will in 5th too. They have a lot of helpful teaching info in them and make it easy. They present lessons in different ways to show a concept.
Hope that helps.

Carrie does make teaching Singapore easy with the hands on activities she has in LHFHG (Early Bird 2A/2B), BLHFHG (Prim Math 1A/B) and Bigger (Prim Math 2A/B). After these guides she recommends using the textbook for teaching to your kiddo's. :D
You will need to go to the Singapore website to do a placement test since the scope of sequence and teaching style is much different and advanced compared to most other math programs in the US. :D
