DITHOR - Level 4/5 Boy Interest Book Pack

Post by momof4busyboys » Wed Jul 21, 2010 12:24 pm

Help! I keep trying to understand my DITHOR material, and I don't get it. My ADD mind has to have everything spelled out for me, especially in the beginning when I'm trying to "see" what I'm doing. I'm starting with my 10-year-old on Monday in PHFHG and using DITHOR Level 4/5. We're going to be doing Biography first with Jed Smith. I look at the character development sheets and such, and it looks so good, but can someone please tell me what the answers are? Is there a posting out there somewhere that will spell it all out for me. I plan to grab the book and read ahead this weekend (probably Sunday night at 10:00), but would love to know how you experienced DITHOR users have done it.

Thanks Bunches!

Kathy

DITHOR is a joy to teach, and you'll be fine once you get started. :D We've been using it a long time and still enjoy it. I don't preread the books. I do follow the DITHOR TG's suggestions for having my dc read a bit out loud to me though, and that keeps me in sync with the book. I also skim the book, usually a page at the start, the middle, and the end of a day's reading as we discuss the questions. The answers are in the book being read. My ds loved "Jed Smith" - I bet yours will too. HTH! :D

Grant LOVED Jed Smith, too! :D Since the program will work with any biography that you choose, there isn't an answer key with the "right answers". Your child answers the questions based on the book they're reading. We did the same thing Julie did. I didn't pre-read the book, but had Grant read 3 pages or so aloud to me on our DITHOR days. So, I had an idea what the book was about. For the oral or workbook questions, if I was questioning one of his answers, I'd just ask him, "Why do you think that is the case?" or "Can you explain that to me a little, I must have missed that part of the book?"
