Has anyone tried the tempera cakes instead of the liquid paints? I like the ideas of less waste, no spills, and not having to wash out paint cups (which always seem to tip over!) I think I would have to keep these only for my 9 and 7 year old sons, though, as I'm afraid the younger ones would touch a color with a brush containing a different color. They tend to make that mess with their watercolors. opinions?

Yes, we have these and they are great! Not as thick as the liquid tempera, but much less mess. They work well for most painting projects (on paper, clay, etc.) but there still might be some instances where you might want a thicker paint. I think they're worth it! HTH!

I haven't used the cakes but I did purchase containers for paint that has a funnel built into the lid to minimize spillage. We have loved these. I will say that the funnel only allows for up to a certain size paintbrush though, not too large. We got these at a Michaels or AC Moore type store.

I do have some of those funnel cups but have never been very fond of them. For one, if there is paint left in there I have trouble wasting it, but if it is not used soon it dries up in the cup anyway. I hate extra dishes, too, especially ones w/ pieces. LOL! Although I was thinking about one of those palettes that Julie had in some of her pics. I think I might like that better.

We used the liquid, but I do use a palette that way I put just a small amount of paint out in the palette at a time. Much less mess or waste. Very easy to clean it up also.
