Art in Preparing...

Post by Tiffini » Tue Mar 11, 2008 3:51 pm

Is there an art program, art instruction, or some kind of art scheduled for this program? That is an area that I really want to make time for, but rarely do. I was wondering how the art and music will tie in to this program? Thank you!!

Great question! :D We will be incorporating art into our weekly projects for each unit. We are still tweaking some areas of the guide to get the balance of each day "just right" (not too much writing, or reading, or discussing, etc.). So, right now in "Preparing..." each weekly project is broken down to be done a little bit each day (over 3 days). The 4th day of each week is set aside for time to be spent on a written narration lesson for history instead of for a project on that day. Moms who would rather do the project all at once should be able to do it that way on day 5, if they choose to do so instead.

The kiddos will also have practice drawing/sketching from a model for their science notebook each week and for some of the history notebooking sessions.

As far as the music goes for "Preparing....", we are still weighing whether to add it in as part of the overall packages, or whether to have it be in our 5th day package option only. We love music so much, but it does add more money to the packages and also doesn't fit as well with "Preparing ...." as it has in the other years. We are still looking for the perfect fit music wise.

Blessings,
Carrie

Music Options...

Post by LeAnna » Wed Mar 12, 2008 3:04 pm

If you are looking for a music option, God Made Music is what I am going to use for the moment. I am going to do a four day schedule and on the 5th day, just do music and probably our phonics. You should check it out, though. After searching for music programs, I found this to be relatively inexpensive and good to use at home. :D

LeAnna,

Thanks so much for the suggestion! :D We have looked at God Made Music, and I do agree that it looks good, however each level is suited to a pretty specific age range, making it tougher to use with the wider spread of ages in "Preparing...". We're pondering Kids for A Kid's Heart Vol. II and just waiting to make sure it will be in print awhile. :D

water2wine,

Thanks for the encouragement. We need it every day, as writing season is most certainly upon us now in full swing.

Blessings,
Carrie

Music....

Post by LeAnna » Wed Mar 12, 2008 7:51 pm

I would escatic about having a full fledge music program incorporated. That would be awesome!! Then, I wouldn't even have to search for another music program. I do love that there is a little bit of music/Bible memorization in the HOD though!!
I totally understand about God Made Music being grade specific. I have heard of mom's using, say the Kindermusic level though, for K-2. I don't know of any other music programs like this, do you???

LeAnna,

I don't know of any other music programs like it that are not terribly expensive! :D Cost does become a factor doesn't it!

Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie
