Okay, trying to come up with a book list for my ds (the late bloomer reader) and we've worked through all of the SL 2 Intermediates this year and I liked how they gradually got more challenging - he needed lots of opportunity for reading without causing too much stress. Soooooo now I'm looking at DITHOR for this year and coming up with book ideas and I wrote down options from the list from Grade 2 and Grade 3 and even Grade 4 and use some genre from each level and gradually increase it that way for this year but when I look up the Lexile numbers on these books - for example, Catwings which is in Grade 2 shows a Lexile level of 700L which I thought meant 7th grade - actually start of 7th grade. So noooooooow I'm totally confused. What does HOD use to base the reading levels on? What am I missing from this picture? I know he needs books on the upper end of a 400 lexile as the last book he read was a 460 or 490... hmmmmmm.....

Re: Book Reading Level Determiner
I am pretty sure Carrie uses the AR(Accelerated reader) level. Catwings is 4.4. There are so many different types of leveling systems for books and they all seem to look at different things and therefore a books level can really vary from scale to scale. In just quickly looking up what a Lexile level is it says it is not a grade level equivalent.
