Bible component

Post by Treewin » Tue Mar 11, 2008 7:50 am

Hi ladies!

I realized I had another question about Bigger and Beyond. I wonder if anyone could help me with opinions and information.

We are in need to a very possitive Bible program. I want it to be filled with scripture but my daughter reacts negatively to scripture that is too "preachy" for lack of a better word. I want her to have basic doctrine but I know she will not hear it willingly if it is approached in a grown up manner. She needs verses about God's love and His plan. She needs verses that are exhorting her to do what is right not telling her to stop doing what is wrong. I hope I am making myself clear.

My question is.....do the scripture verses in Bigger and Beyond have a "positive feeling" to them? I know that all scripture is good but I am starting to realize that dd needs softer kid gloves *right now*. All of you ladies seem to be very upbeat and I would trust your opinions, could you give me any feed back about this.

Thoughts?

Thanks in Advance.

We are doing beyond right now and I think the verses are very practical. It is especially helpful the way Carrie has you ask the kids questions that apply to the verse and how it applies to them. Even for me it helps with how it applies to my own life.

I think you are going to be OK. Bigger uses mostly Proverbs. There is character training in proverbs of course but it always compares the positive to the negative and gives the plan to stay on the positive track. That is very much Carries focus I am finding. It is not beating in the negative with a stick type of thing but more pointing out we have choices. Here is the wise choice God can bless and here are some bad choices made by people in history where you are clearly reading what happened. There is a lot of getting them to think of answers too in a very positive way. 8) So it is not stern or strict.

I hope I am explaining that OK but bottom line is I really think you will find that it will work. You could take a look at the examples online but what you are missing is the read aloud in the history that connects it all. So it is hard to get a really accurate view without doing the program.

W2W, that was a (as usual) beatiful description. I was just going to say that character type lessons are sometimes the best way to show someone what's right without actually "telling" them

I love to hear these things about the programs that I will get to do in the future....it helps keep me focused and gives reassurance that I'm on the right track with using HOD!

Thanks W2W!!!

I appreciate this info. I am not suprised by this but I wanted to check. My Dd can really get defensive if scripture is too direct. I am hoping it is just an age thing.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The verses are so clearly tied to what you read in history, that a reader could easily JUST apply them to the history lesson until s/he was ready to apply them to him/herself. Does that make sense?

I think that is really good advice and actually is sort of how it is so would be easy. Maybe your dd is just sensitive and really takes The Word to heart. :D
