Do you do BOTH K and 1st w/ LHFHG? If so, do you half-speed w/ Kinder options and then for 1st gr. finish half speed w/ the 1st gr. options?
Thanks for helping me think through this.
FYI: I will also be doing Preparing for 5th, Bigger half-speed for 2nd.

We didn't do both... we will be doing K with one child and 1st with a different child, and I"m not sure where #4 will fit in (we didn't do HOD until #1 was in Beyond)... we are doing K with LHTH for DD2 and 1st with LHFHG... DD3 is doing LHTH for pre-school and LHFHG for K...
but that's just how WE are doing it. You very easily could go half speed with the left hand side of the TM and full speed with the right hand side using K level stuff the first half and then when you finish moving on to 1st... that way you'd do both K and 1st with the LHFHG manual.

We just did it with the K options and moved on to Beyond when we were done. For the science, I'd just do K all the way through.

However, for the fine motor skills choices Lora Beth worded this so well...

That is another nice option as well! We actually sort of are doing this with half-speed LHTH, only with both Bibles and devotionals. That is working well too. I guess I'd weigh if your dd's fine motor skills are ready for daily work? If so, then I'd do the "Do It Carefully/Finding the Answers" full-speed the first year, and "Thinking Skills" full-speed the second year. Likewise, I'd do "A Reason for HW K" or "Italic A" full-speed the first year, and ""A Reason for HW A" or "Italic B" full-speed the second year. I'd be inclined to do math half-speed the whole time. But, if you wanted, you could do Earlybird K Math full-speed the first year, and Singapore Math 1 full-speed the second year (however, I'd want the Beyond 1A/1B hands-on plans then, if it were me, so that would require the Beyond manual - or the Appendix Textbook pages in LHFHG can be used otherwise). I think it hinges on her fine motor skills mainly. I'd want her to be growing but not overly challenged to the point of frustration - not sure where that puts her with this. Maybe you could start it all half-speed (only daily phonics) and see if that's fitting her well? I guess I'd be inclined to do that, especially since you'll be doing 2 other guides as well. HTH!

Julie

My son started LHFHG this past January when he was still 4 so we are stretching it out for 2 years. What we are doing is the fine motor skills, math, and phonics daily and then the other boxes we do at half speed. This way he will finish the K options for fine motor skills, math, and phonic by the time we get through Unit 17 on everything else, and then we will just start all over with the 1st grade options. Does that make sense?
This is the way I schedule it:
Rhymes in Motion & the Music we do daily just to help him remember
The first day we do Reading About History and the Rotating Box (Science, Thinking Games, Dramatic Play, Artistic Expression)
The second day we do Bible Study and Storytime
We've been doing it this way since January and we love it! I also check out books each week on whatever history or science topics are covered and since we have 2 days to cover 1 planned day I feel like we have more time to get extra reading in.

I have also been thinking of doing LHFHG partly at half speed. Eventually I would like my ds to be in the middle or end age range of the age for the manuals.

Thank you for asking this, because this gave me a new idea with the responses you have gotten.

Are these the books listed in the back of the manual? I am planning to use these more this time around, I hope to find some in the library.

Yes, but the ones in the back of the manual are only history. So, I usually take a look at whatever science is scheduled and try to find a couple of books that are related to that as well. Also, my library doesn't have very many of the books listed in the back of the manual so if I can't find the exact ones, I just do a search by topic and see what I can find.
