Schooling through summer after all...

Post by blessedmomof4 » Fri Jul 02, 2010 10:13 am

It's funny, we took a month off and my youngest daughter could not focus on "just math"-so after a bit of griping from her, we are back to doing full lessons in Preparing and days are going great again, lol! Even better since I challenged her to finish as much as possible by 1:30 PM. Also, her 12 year old sister is surreptitiously listening in on read-alouds since she is off public school for the summer-I've been trying hard to get her interested in homeschooling again, perhaps this will be the thing that reminds her how great it is... :D

I would love to start now, but I know July would not be a good time to begin because we have a week of day camp and a week of family camp. So, I'm refraining  I'm just happy that dd isn't fussing about doing TRL. She's actually cooperating. I just told her that we would continue with reading over the summer. She hasn't had the taste of HOD like your daughter, but I'm hoping she will be eager to do school, once she knows what HOD is like. :)

We took the month of June off and all of us are ready to get back to our routine of school. We're staring up on Monday! :)
I love that HOD is not only so appealing to the children but also that it doesn't take up the whole day so that we can still get out and enjoy the good weather.
Hopefully your older dd will get that homeschooling "spark" back watching her little sister!

We typically take some of April-May off (the weather is just too nice here) so we have recently started back up for the new year. We are doing Preparing (my favorite thus far!) and LHfHG. We do half pace through the summer, though. The pool beckons us in the afternoons. :)

Ah, yes, we are schooling through the summer also, and we're upping the ante by doing school tomorrow *and* next Saturday! My husband will be gone from 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in meetings for church, so I said, "Let's pretend he's at work and that it's a weekday!" That may be hard, but we have two incentives: Dad will bring home pizza if all goes well for us, and we will take off either Monday or Friday next week for an activity.
