Saving LHFHG for first...need advice on K

I have been going back in forth in my mind about what to do for my dd's K year. It seems that HOD flows better through 9th grade if LHFHG is saved for first grade. We have LHTH. I read that I could do LHTH with the K options for LHFHG. So, just to be sure I know what I need to buy if I go this route...
I buy the LHFHG guide and the things for the right side of the page. This would not include Bible, history, science, devotional, cd. Then for first grade I would do LHFHG and add the right side of Beyond. And so on. If I do it this way, is there a year where it catches up with itself and I can just use one guide or will I always be going out of two? Do I do the read alouds this year or save that for first grade?
THANKS a million!!!

I think there are a few ways to do this... But I can tell you what I'm doing.
We're doing LHTH with LHFHG math, fine motor and phonics boxes. So we bought the singapore earlybird math workbooks, rod and staff workbooks, a reason for handwriting k, and reading made easy. Then next year I plan to use LHFHG with the first grade choices for those boxes. I haven't yet decided weather or not to buy the next guide up for math activities. I am saving the LHFHG storytime books for when we use the whole program. So we can be working out of only one guide as early as next year, or in a couple of years when the hands on math activities aren't written anymore. (I think that's after second grade.)

You could always start this year, but do it at half-pace. You could add in nature walks and picture study to round out your child's CM education.
Or you could start it in K and stretch Beyond or Bigger to hit Preparing in 4th grade.
Have you done Little Hands? That would make a simple and easy K curriculum.

One other thought, is that you would only have to get two guides for a few years. I am pretty sure that the math hands on activities are only in the guides up to Beyond and then at that point all the older schedules are listed in the appendix of the later guides (after Beyond). So you wouldn't need to get two guides once you're doing Bigger.
Maybe others can chime in and verify that. Hope that helps!

Nancy - That sounds perfect! I think that's probably what I'll do. It's good to know we wouldn't need two guides every year after a few years.
Thanks to the other replies as well! All have been helpful! We did do LHTH this year...
Also, before I found out about HOD I bought RightStart Math for K which was very pricey indeed. I can't return it as it had passed the 60 days or whatever it was before I found HOD. So, I'm thinking about using RS for math for K and then switching to Singapore for first. Has anyone done this? Or should I just count my losses and get Singapore right away for K? I figure for K they can't be that different - or can they?

I'm planning on staring my dd on LHFHG doing 4 days a week, stretching it into the beginning of next year. Then doing the same with the next guides until Preparing. It actually works out giving us 34/4day weeks for 4 years. That will stretch 3 guides over 4 years, having her start Preparing in 4th grade.

While you totally could do LHTH with the LHFHG right side choices, I am thinking that since you just did LHTH, you may as well just start LHFHG. Did your dd do well with LHTH, and does she seem ready for LHFHG? If so, I really do think it would be nice to just move on to LHFHG. This will be new and exciting for your dd and fresh for you as well. You could start it half-speed for awhile, doing the left side of the plans one day, and the right side of the plans the next day, but doing daily phonics. This would have you only working out of 1 guide year to year, which you may as well since she'd done LHTH and is within the target age range for LHFHG already anyway. We have done half-speed LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond..., and Bigger..., over the years with our different dc and enjoyed the flexibility that gives us. Because your dd is on the young end of the target age range, you can easily do half-speed for as long as you feel that pacing is fitting her. For example, we'll do LHTH over 2 years with our youngest. We did LHFHG over 1 1/2 years for our middle ds. We've done a guide a year for our oldest ds. All of these pacings have worked well. So, HOD is extremely flexible this way. You will easily be able to pace it out to finish in ninth grade if that is your desire.
What's more, is you will be able to work out of only one guide and will have the flexibility to slow down to half-speed or 4 days a week any time you need to (due to your dd's needed pacing, or do to health concerns, or unforeseen life concerns, etc.). This is a nice position to be in! Those are just a few thoughts I had though, you will certainly know what fits your goals the best!
