What Dictionary?

Post by mrsrandolph » Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:55 am

Do you recommend a particular dictionary? I noticed we need one for Bigger. (if I am thinking clearly) I don't want it to be immensely huge, but I would like it to have the words we need in it...

I followed Susan Wise Bauer's recommendations for a dictionary: Merriam-Webster's Elementary Dictionary. It is a great help and the perfect level for my DS 7 and DD 9.

We use " The Christian Student Dictionary" by BJU press. Whatever is not in there, I help him use my 1828 Webster or the internet for.

We did not have good luck with any student dictionaries for the words in Bigger. (However this year in Preparing we found MANY more of the words in there.) The words you're looking up from the history readings in Bigger are from books with a great vocabulary! So, I'd reccommend a collegiate dictionary - one for "adults" as I think you'll have way better luck.
