I just looked at the placement tests for 1B,2B,and 3B. DS , finishing 3rd grade, would have to go to 1B if I did it. Sinapore is so different and really makes you think! He is good a the A Beka math we do but doesn't like math because he has to think and use his brain! I'm thinking I'll just stick with A Beka for him.

But it does look good for my 5 yr old dd, I think if I start her off with it she will get used to it. And I can get used to it too! It's like a how different math from what I'm used to!

Sound like a plan?

I think that's a great plan... if it works for him then stick with it... But I personally would go with Singapore because it's described so easily in the plans It makes it SO SO SO simple....

Did you let him take the test? Or did you just look at it? Just looking at it, Jayden would place in 2B, but when I have her take it she's at 2A, which is where she should be considering where we are in the plans....

Hi Katherine! You could definitely do Abeka or Singapore with your oldest. If your wondering which would be better, you could have him take the Singapore placement test at www.singaporemath.com. I always figure more information may swing me another direction, so it's good to have. For your youngest, you should be able to just have her begin with Singapore, and that will be super! If your oldest was enjoying math, it would be good just to keep going with Abeka, but since he's not so keen on it, maybe it would be worth exploring doing Singapore. But you'll know best!

No, I didn't have Michael take the test, I just looked at it.

He was not enjoying math even though he is good at it. But he does not enjoy any of the writing/thinking part of school. You know, English, cursive, dictation, math. He likes the history reading, science, art.

Sounds like I should start Kara out with Singapore. Now what to do with him. Do I keep him with A Beka since he does well even if he doesn't like it? I don't think he'll like any math.

So why is Singapore so different anyway? It's nothing like I've ever seen.

I don't really know how Singapore is different really, but the plus for me is that it's how *I* do math... it's how *I* think math and how I'd be teaching it anyway no matter what program I'm using. My dad had me doing pre-algebra at 5 years old with the way Singapore teaches it. So for me, SM makes it super easy to teach the girls. Now, Jayden's mind frustrates me, because she will not get ANYTHING... it will not click at all... many tears and frustration and wondering should I change programs and all that and then, all of a sudden, she'll know it all and do it easily. So I've learned to just show her where she's messed up, make her re-do the ones she does get wrong, and move on. But Grace and Julianna are doing GREAT with it....

Oh, and one more thing... since the workbooks are fairy cheap, and you have the Beyond and Bigger guides already, why don't you get 1A/B or even 2A/B and try it out with him.... you can always go back to A Beka if neither of you like it.... but I still wouldn't automatically assume Kara wouldn't do well with it.

LoraBeth, that's why it's so easy for you, it's how you do math. I like your idea about getting Singapore to try. I wish I still lived near you where that homeschool store is so close.
