How to do the Bigger Spelling Review???

My 9yo dd is doing well working through the Bigger spelling list, it has been right on target for her abilities. We are coming up on Unit 7, which is a review. I'm looking for ideas on how to do the review. Should I call out all the words from units 1-6 and let her write them on her small white board? or just call out a sampling of the words for her to write?

Thanks!

Each day in the guide during review week it tells you what to do. Do you have the Bigger guide?

Oh, Thanks! I flipped over to unit 7 in the guide, and I see the instructions there. We are ahead of the guide on the spelling list. Thanks for letting me know. What a big help. This will make the review so easy! :D

I was just going to make mention that the spelling plans in the LA box include additional skills that improve spelling and writing in general. They have dc use the words within context, come up with sentences of their own for the words (which works on meaning of words), etc. I just wanted to be sure that you got to take advantage of that, as the spelling lists are just one part of the plans, so that's a little different than the way most spelling list programs are set up. :D Our dc learned just as much or more from doing the LA box's plans as they did from the lists, and I believe the higher level of skills in the plans made it easier to transition into dictation. While they could have taken a test on the words and passed moving on quickly to other lists, it was the higher level skills in the LA box of the plans that really improved their spelling skills overall and helped them transition into dictation more easily. :D

Julie,

Thanks for mentioning about the spelling activities in the boxes in the Bigger guide. I have been doing those with my dd. They are great and have helped her alot. She does it just as the directions in the box tell me. Once, we were doing the word "send". She read the word as I had written it on the index card. I asked her to make a sentence with the word. She made the sentence, "Adam and Eve sinned in the garden." Well, I was floored that she thought it was that! So, I explained the word and how "send" is different from "sinned", wrote the word "sinned" for her so she could see the difference. Then she understood and made a sentence about sending a letter. I am thankful for all the directions in the TM!!

Thanks!

If you have one that needs more practice for some reason (I have one that has learning delays) it has also helped to make silly sentences up with the spelling words and then dictate them. Just if you have one that needs more practice. :D

Great example of how important it is to do the activities! :D (Although I bet it was kind of a catch 22 when she mixed up that word, because it inadvertently shows she understands the word "sinned" in the context of Adam and Eve's sin - smart little gal with her priorities straight already. :D ) Thanks for sharing this, and I was thinking you were more than likely doing the box activities but thought I'd mention it after I'd talked with a number of ladies at conventions who were just pretesting and post-testing using the spelling lists, rather than doing the box activities. :( Thanks for putting those worries to rest. Have a good Monday! :D
