We own the movie and watched it this winter after listening to the book on audio tape. The movie is okay. It is slightly different from the book.
I agree with you, that the DITHOR books are simply too hard to pass up!

I haven't read the book since I was a kid so I can't comment on that. A friend of ours just dropped off a box of movies for us that her children no longer watch (they are older) and The Indian in the Cupboard was one of the movies. Part way through I had the children take it out and we now have it in our toss pile. The little boy in the movie uses a couple of mild cuss words and that isn't ok with us.
Just thought I would give a heads up if anyone was interested in that tid-bit about the movie.

My son LOVED the book when we read it this year!

I enjoyed it too! The book is WAY better than the movie. You could watch the movie after you read it and talk about how it's different.
