Hello ladies,

I am planning to do Bigger with a girl 8 and a boy 7. There are three kinds of storytime books, and I want all of them! So which ones should we cover in our school time? I suppose the Classic? And what about the boy set and the girl interest set? Just have them for them to read on their own? Or have them as extra read aloud?

Also, if I buy the extension package, can I have them as read aloud books to tie with the chronological history portion?

Does this make any sense?

It is so tempting to just get all the storytime books!
Here is what we are doing to solve this problem...we selected 3 genres from each set, making sure to cover all 9 genres. (We are also planning on adding some of the others as further read alouds during vacation and summer.)

As for the extensions, they are intended for mature children; so some may not be appropriate. I know some others on this board, along with myself, are incorporating some/all of them into history as a read aloud. You know what is best for your child.

I so understand this, as I feel the same way about all of HOD's books! I did get the 3 Storytime sets for Bigger (even the girl set, even though I have 3 boys ). They're just that good, and the older I get, the more I realize that the pool of what I consider "good" books is growing smaller. So, we read 1 Storytime set aloud, and give the other 2 sets to my dc to read for leisure. They have loved that! Since my dc are on the younger ages of the HOD guides, I don't get the extensions, and I don't read them aloud. I just decided the content was probably too mature for them, but they are excellent books. I have thought about getting the earlier extension sets just for my oldest to read on his own, but I need to figure out if he's ready for them yet or not (considering maturity of content and reading level). We have our family Bible reading time at bedtime all together, as that is the best shot we have at daddy being home to join us. If we weren't doing that, I'd probably be doing a read-aloud time with HOD books instead. HTH as you decide!

We're using Beyond next year with a boy and a girl. We already owned several of them that we hadn't yet read, and I had them help me pick the rest. We ended up mainly using the classic and boy sets. I was surprised by some of DD's choices, but I want them to be really excited about storytime.

Great ideas, ladies! I know it is SO hard to choose. I have the hardest time too! We've even read almost all of the girl books with our all boy family, one way or another.
