Morning HOD families, Last year was my first year using HOD with my child(ren), I have an almost 10 and just turned 7, both boys. Last year I was introduced to HOD by a mom who used it and it blessed her so she introduced it to me and sold me her used curriculm, which was Bigger. The crclm was the economy + science and history I believe with an extension package or the readers I'm am not sure actually I have to go and try to figure that out. Needless to say, he didn't do the readers at all, but we had a really good time using the curiclm, and I am trying to decide what to buy this year. As with allot of people, we are pinching pennies and I can't afford to buy what isn't necessary. Can someone give me any idea of what they do so I can order? Tech, this is my first time ordering since the last year was private. I chose not to purchase the DITHOR last year as we discuss everything we read anyway, but I would like some recommendations. Also for the record, my oldest who will be 10 in July, likes to read especially when I read to him:) and is super struggling at math!! Also has wonderful penmanship and is doing well at spelling. Also I want to make sure, since net year tech. will be his 5th grade year, that I am making the best choice for him with PH.
Thank you all for your help/advice
LaDonna

Here is a link to the Preparing package page, just so you can see what is available:

You would definitely need the history economy package and the science package (unless you're using a different science program). You will also need math...either the recommended
HOD resources or other program. You'll need to determine which Rod & Staff book your dc needs or use a different program, DITHOR TM and student book or your own reading program, and the CD if you want to use that to aid in scripture memorization. The basic package (listed below the science package on the web site) can be omitted if necessary economically, and the self-study extension package is only needed if you want to extend your child's learning in science and history (for 5th or 6th grade students). The self-study deluxe history package can also be omitted and you could try to find those books at the library or use your own. The only other thing I can think of that you might need is a handwriting program, but that is only necessary if you think extra practice will be needed, as there is copy work included in
Preparing each week and plenty of other practice writing. I hope that is clear.

And others will be along too, in case I missed anything.

Welcome to the HOD Board, LaDonna!

I'm glad you enjoyed BHFHG, and PHFHG is equally wonderful. Taking a peek at the placement chart would be a good way to see if PHFHG seems to fit well for your dc, but if they did well in BHFHG, they should do well in PHFHG, as BHFHG prepares dc very well to do PHFHG.

InHistiming did a good job of laying out the choices in PHFHG for you. Here is a link to the packages page of PHFHG:

If you click on the "Helpful Tips on How to Order" light bulb at the top, that should help too.

In case it is easier to order in 9 week increments due to budget needs, here is a link that may be helpful:

I want to encourage you that DITHOR is an excellent reading program. It is worth every penny. I've used it for 7 years thus far and enjoyed each year with it. The first year it costs more to get because you need the teacher's manual, but every year after that it's inexpensive. You can choose your own books or use the book packs HOD has put together. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about this!

Here's a link where I explained why I love DITHOR so much:

Keep asking questions until you are set to go!

This board is full of encouraging ladies. It's one of my favorite places to visit each day. I think you'll find this board and HOD to be a blessing in your family - as it is in ours!
In Christ,
Julie
