Need your advice....is this doable?

Post by my7angels » Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:56 am

To start out, I'll preface with this....while we have been homeschooling for a long time, this is our first year with HOD. My plan has been to do CtC with two of my older daughters and Beyond with my 1st grade son who is an emerging reader. Well, now I'm thinking that I should also do LHTH with my 3 and 5 year old sons. I had ordered MP Kindergarten for my 5 year old, but in looking at it, I think it might be too much for him this year. Plus I found HOD! :) I'd like to keep the children working in pairs as much as possible, and I think these two would make a good pair. They are 2 years apart. The 3yro. is advanced and the 5yro. is a late bloomer. I think the HOD guides will streamline things better for me than what I've been doing in the past. Am I crazy?

If I were to do this, how do you handle picking the Bible and devotion books? Do I order the separate levels for each or just one? Which would you recommend I choose? I'm not sure what to do. I'd LOVE some suggestions!!! :D

Blessings,
Christina

Angie already gave such wise advice! :D I too agree that LHTH would be super easy to add. I did CTC and Beyond last year (finishing with the start of Bigger half-speed), and LHTH half-speed. Loved it. :D We were going to wait on doing LHTH until my ds was 4 yo, but I couldn't wait. He really wanted time with me, and all of those good intentions I had of reading him this or doing that never happened. :( So, we just started LHTH half-speed, and he was thrilled! :D I agree that "The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes" and "Big Thoughts for Little People" would be good choices for both your dc (along with "The Singing Bible). I like the idea of pairs for your kiddos too, and you'd be set up for a very nice teaching rotation by doing it this way. :D

In Christ,

Christina,

The ladies have already been so helpful and have given you such good advice! :D From what you've shared, I would consider putting your 3 and 5 year olds together in LHTH and then add any parts of LHFHG that you feel your 5 year old is ready to do. :D You could add the phonics, the Do It Carefully/Finding the Answers, the handwriting workbook, and possibly the math. You'll know best which of these areas your 5 year old seems ready to tackle. Just let the rest go until the following year.

Then, the following year your 4 and 6 year old could move into LHFHG together with the 4 doing any K options and the 6 doing the combo. of K and grade 1 options that best fit him (based on what he did this year). :D Clear as mud?

Blessings,
Carrie
