How do these levels differ in the plans? in the workbook? in the reading requirement? in the time commitment?
ahhh yes, that's right. It will be a while before i need another 2/3 book. DS6 is just going into 1st grade! Makes sense. He likely won't be ready for DITHOR until 3rd grade since we're en route to finish phonics in 1st, emerging readers in 2nd. Thanks for that little nugget Julie!my3sons wrote:Hi Tamara! Kathleen said exactly what I was going to say - I'd do Level 4/5 books with Student Book 2/3 and 2/3 plans. I'd also have her read 2-4 pages out loud to you and finish the rest out independently. Using a fresh book is important, so I'd just look at the HOD book shop categories of genres and choose one she hasn't read (my ds has enjoyed some from the girl interest set too, so check out the boy interest sets as well for her as there is some overlap of interests usually). I wouldn't try to use the plastic page protectors, but would instead just copy the pages or order a new one year's down the road. You should be set for her for the next 3 years even if you write in it, because she can use the 2/3 this year, half of the 4/5 the next year, and the other half of the 4/5 the following year (since you already own it).
Unless your next kiddo needs one, you should be a-o-k for awhile.
HTH!
In Christ,
Julie
We went to find a few after searching online a bit (more like scouring ever page I could find!). I'm going to glance over them and decide which would be the best, but a couple of my DD's top picks so far are The Castle in the Attic and The Cat Who Went to Heaven. I have to check out the actual reading level on these and the others to see which one or two will fit best. If I go with the cat one, it might be more of a 5 day book I think. The castle one might be too advanced right now. I've got one more that I put on "order" at the library that should be in for me to view soon...It's called something like Magic to Burn. I don't recall exactly...sorry! My dd really wants that one from the description she read, but we'll see. It's all up in the air till mommy gets a chance to skim them for content or finds her HOD book ideas list!Have fun hunting and if you feel like sharing what you choose, I would love to hear. It might give me some ideas for my dd.
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle! LOL I wonder if that's why they're our top picks thenpjdobro wrote:I'm LOL because I too had lost my sample book list and just found it again today. All three of the books you listed are on the list in the Level 4/5 fantasy list. So you did great! I'll have to check those out too. The cat one sounds particularly interesting since we love cats around here.
