Question on Beyond with DIHOR
Question on Beyond with DIHOR
Hi! I'm new on the message board but had a question. I have a 7 yr old son and 5 yr old daughter and we did LHFHG this past year and LOVED it! I plan on doing Beyond next year with both of them. My daughter will probably do the Emerging Readers set but I was looking at DIHOR for my son. If I went with DIHOR, would I also get one of the storytime book sets? So we would be reading aloud one book from the ER set with my daughter, one with both of them for the storytime, and then one with my son for DIHOR? I just want to make sure I understand how it all works together right. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Question on Beyond with DIHOR
Yes,you are on the right track.
Emerging Readers for daughter to read aloud.
Storytime set to read to both of them.
Book set for your son to read at his reading level for DITHOR
I am doing Beyond with my 6.5 yr old son next year and LHFHG with my 5 yr old daughter.
Glad to have you on board

Re: Question on Beyond with DIHOR
Welcome to the HOD Board!
You have that all right!
Is your 7 yo quite a strong reader? The ERS starts off with easier books but steadily ups the reading level as dc move through it. If you thought he was somewhere near the middle or end of the ERS, you could easily start him there. You'd just have 1 sticky note for your dd's place in the ERS, and another sticky note for your ds's place in the ERS in the Appendix of Beyond. If ds is a strong reader, then he could start with DITHOR Level 2 books along with the DITHOR 2/3 Package. Or, you could choose your own books for him instead of using the Level 2 book pack if you so desired. We started our 7 yo in DITHOR, and I did some of the writing in the Student Book for him at first. We then transitioned to me writing his answers on markerboard, and him copying them into his DITHOR Student Book. Now he does it on his own. I just thought I'd throw that out there since sometimes dc's fine motor skills don't match their reading skills.
You are going to have such fun with Beyond, with the ERS, and with DITHOR! I look forward to getting to know you here.
In Christ,
Julie

Re: Question on Beyond with DIHOR
Thank you for the clarification. And, yes, my 7 yr old is a very strong reader. He can read pretty much anything we give him...but, my hesitation in starting DIHOR was exactly what Julie mentioned. His fine motor skills are not quite up to his reading skills. He doesn't enjoy too much writing and I want to be careful not to discourage him from reading! So, those suggestions about me writing some of it in the beginning were especially helpful. Thanks again for the advice and the welcome
