Does HOD teach literary terms?

...in Bigger and Preparing ( or even older guides ) or only if using DITHOR ?
Mostly interested if it teaches terms like metaphor , hyperbole , types of poetry , etc

I am considering Bigger or Preparing .Still not decided since my son is so advanced in LA and it looks like Bigger would be too easy for him but not sure if he is mature enough for Preparing . Also he really needs to do some American history .

For reading I would like to keep BJU DVD since he enjoys this so much but I am not sure if DITHOR would complement our day with HOD better and would make it shorter ? BJU takes about 30 min .

We do fully teach literary terms in our DITHR program, which is what would be comparable to your BJU DVD's. The two programs will take completely different approaches to literature study, however as BJU uses short stories and excerpts for the main portion of their reading material (and a workbook approach) while DITHR uses full works of literature and a discussion based graphic organizer approach. It just depends which is better suited for your philosophy of reading instruction as to which program is a better fit for your family. Since our company leans in the CM direction, DITHR falls right into alignment with that philosophy. We do include a mini-DITHR type study with the storytime books in both Beyond and Bigger, and Bigger includes a poetry study complete with poetry terms that pertain to that study. We also utilize Rod and Staff for grammar, which is by no means an easy grammar program. So, we'll cover the things you mentioned through the combination of DITHR, our plans, and Rod and Staff.

When deciding where to place your child within our guides, make sure to weigh all areas on the first page of the placement chart. How well a child reads, writes, thinks, listens, and follows directions will make a big difference as to which guide is most appropriate.

I'd jump into DITHOR! It is such an inspiring way to teach reading. We've been doing it for quite awhile and still enjoy it to the hilt. Here's a past post where I shared why it is so near and dear to my heart if you feel like reading it:
