Beyond LA question

I noticed in Bigger, R&S 2 is used for grammar. I didn't see any Language Arts workbooks for Beyond, so I was going to use QLL. From what I can tell, I don't need anything extra. All the Language Arts assignments are in the LA Box to use in a notebook; am I right?

Thank you!

I will be beginning Beyond with my two older girls in the late summer and I asked a similar question. It is my understanding that you do not need to add anything to Beyond. However, since I will be combining a 2nd and 3rd grader in Beyond, Carrie and others recommended that I add in Rod and Staff 2 for my 3rd grader. So, I think it really depends on the age of the child meaning if the child is younger than grade 3 you do not need to add R&S. Does that make sense? HTH

Gina,

Thank you. It does make sense. My dd is a rising 1st grader, so I think we will leave it like it is. I might even stretch out Beyond for a year and a half, not sure. LHFHG isn't enough, I bought both guides and I realized she is better suited for Beyond.

I have another question about Copywork. In the first few Units, copywork is done from the poetry. How much do you do? My daughter is a good reader, but her handwriting needs work. Do you do a couple of sentences or just a few words?

We will be starting Beyond in June and I plan to have my son copy as much of the poem as he is able. I would love to have his copywork neat and the letters formed correctly instead of his struggling to complete the entire poem.

We enjoyed the grammar lessons planned in Beyond on the fifth day of each unit. It was a great introduction to the basic parts of speech. For copywork, we had my ds copy one line of the poetry each day to begin with, trying to have him copy an entire stanza by the end of the week. Here's a link where I took pics of and described his writing progress, in case something here may help:

He was eventually able to copy the entire poem. Isn't it exciting to see our dc's writing skills grow?!? :D

In Christ,
Julie

Those pictures were great, thanks. That makes a lot of sense. My dd isn't used to writing too much yet, something we need to work on this fall. We are going to practice handwriting and more reading this summer so we will be ready for the emerging readers we ordered with Beyond.

I really like the idea of a stopping sticker so they can get the spacing between words down. I think we will use an unlined sketchbook at first also so I can make it what ever size she needs for letter formation.

Once again, you've been a great help, Julie!

Oh, I see. There is enough grammar in the Beyond Language Arts box to be a pre-requisite for R&S 2 in Bigger. Ignore my other post. Sorry.

Blessings!
