Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
My little guy is almost done with LHTH but he is certainly not ready to start LHFHG since there is too much reading and writing involved for him. Any suggestions?

Re: Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
Hmmm.
i kinda had that problem.
My kids did LHTH when they were about 3.5 to 4.5 yrs
My son finished it in Feb of the year we did it and he was almost 4.5. we only had 3 units to go and then i had my 3rd child 3 weeks early. so we just didn't finsih and didn't do anything til about August or Sept. we ended up doing Math, storytime the do it carefully/finding books and started phonics then.
Maybe you could do something like that.
You could even do your own little storytime, bible time and math activities if you didn't want to do HOD's yet and if not quite ready for that.
Somehow with my daughter we had big breaks in btwn and she finished a month or so ago after turning 5yr old.
Best i can say for him.. have fun, read and just play, paint, whatever. OOh.. or maybe do a fun lapbook if he likes to cut and paste or be creative. There are plenty of free ones on-line and lots of ideas for putting together your own.
At least i wouldn't worry about trying to "have" to do something if not quite ready for LHFHG. But that is me.
We did use a little workbook from from Teacher Created Resources i think it was. Just something to feel like school. OR maybe a different Rod &Staff wkbk.
Hope that helped a little and ask more questions if ya need more specifics

Re: Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
We are in the same situation and this is what we are doing to fill in.
From LHTH:
- redo Bible stories with a different Bible
- action rhymes
- art activities
Adding to it:
- Before the Code explode the code 3 book series - basic beginning phonics
- Handwriting Without Tears - before school books
- Doing it Carefully basic skills series (one choice in LHFHG)
- Topic of the week using library books
- our own storytime
- preschool math activities
We are not doing all of that everyday of course, but that is how we plan to fill in a year.

Could you redo LHTH with the harder Bible and harder devotional? You could replace whatever things you felt you wanted to replace with the K options of LHFHG. Julie, your idea about using the next set of resources for LHTH might have worked if we weren't already using the older set. Maybe I could just use portions of LHTH again and use some of the R&S workbooks instead of the letter and number activities. That would leave LHFHG for our K year.

Re: Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
You could still use whatever devotional you hadn't used, as neither of them looks too "young" for a child on the older age range of LHTH. Both devotionals have nuggets of wisdom about the Lord and focus on the letter of the week, so I think that would be neat to do. You could then use a harder children's Bible, maybe "The Family Time Bible" from LHFHG. That was one of our favorites! Then, when doing LHFHG, you could just do the other Bible "101 Favorite Stories from the Bible", which is also excellent.
But those are just a few ideas to consider, along with the other things you mentioned.

Julie

Re: Done with LHTH not ready for LHFHG?
We were in the same boat and decided to do LHFHG at half pace. We will do it over 2 years.
We do use a different math, however.
She is doing well with that.
You can search the archive for LHFHG half speed to see more about folks who have done this
