Typical Day of Homeschooling

Post by Josiah's Mom » Tue May 18, 2010 8:38 am

Hi
Can you tell me what a typical day of homeschooling looks like using HOD? I'm just looking for a time when you start how long each subject takes things like that.

Thanks
Rebecca

For which guide? (love your screen name...I have a josiah too!)

There's a few threads that give time for each subject for each guide. I'll have to try to find those later, or maybe someone else can first. :D
My dd8 (9 in june) doing Bigger takes a couple hours or so to do school.

For Preparing it takes about 4- 4 1/2hrs typically. We use a different math and language arts so ours may take longer than someone using Carrie's recommendations. We were also already doing a 50 state study so we have continued with that. Our day looks like this typically.
8-8:15 he numbers the order he is going to do his boxes for the day and then he does some "Praise dancing" to music. It seems to put him in a good frame of mind for the day so I let him do it.
8:15 he starts always with Bible and then the order changes some depending on the day, but he does the right side of the guide in the mornings. He takes a short snack/talk to the dogs break at 9 or so.
9:15-11:15 he finishes the right side of the book and sometimes we have time for storytime.
I let him have lunch/recess until 12.
Then 12-1:30 or 2:00 he does the left side and any extras like the state study.
We are always done by 2:00 . One thing though, it did go longer at first until he got in the groove of the independent things. Vocabulary cards used to take a while as did Research, but now he does those in 15-20 minutes. The days he does Drawn into the Heart of Reading tend to be our longer days, because he is a slow reader.

Lynn Thank you so much for your helpful reply. I'm going to print this out and use it. I like the idea of letting him listen to praise music in the morning. Thanks for your help.
:D

What do you use to study the states?

Lynn already did an awesome job of helping you out. Isn't this board full of helpful people?!? :D This link says pretty much the same thing Lynn already kindly shared, but I'll share it anyway since it's in regard to PHFHG's boxes:
