Hi Newbie Here!

Post by Josiah's Mom » Mon May 17, 2010 1:07 pm

Hi

I have decided to use Heart of Dakota with my 4th grader this year. I'm really looking forward to getting started next week. We home school year round. I have one child Josiah who will be turning nine in June. This is my first year using Heart of Dakota and we are doing Preparing Hearts for His Glory. I also wanted to add that I'm married to the best husband in the world. We have been married 10 years. I wish we had started using this program sooner.

Welcome Rebecca,
You are going to love Preparing. We are on our last week and my ds is so sad that he is almost done with Preparing. I was looking through his notebooks and it is amazing what all he has done this year.

:D Hi Rebecca! :D

I wanted to pop in and welcome you to HOD, too! I just finished using Preparing with my 9 yo 4th grader this year. We had a wonderful year!! Grandpa's Box was my favorite book! Grant loved it, too, but he says his favorite was Raiders From the Sea in the storytime part of the guide. The selections that Carrie has chosen there really made the history come to life for us! :D And, Grant says that the poetry writing, science and Drawn Into the Heart of Reading were also his favorite parts. :D I loved the way that the guide taught the creative writing with Robert Louis Stevenson's poetry. (I NEVER would have guessed that it would have been something Grant loved to do! )

We're planning to start CTC (Creation to Christ), the next guide Carrie has written, in August. The HOD guides do a great job of teaching the kids skills and having them ready for the next things they need to work on. We're here until Carrie stops writing guides!!! :D

Rebecca,
We will also start CTC in August. I have everything already and it looks great. In fact I have already read one of the History Spines and I really enjoyed it. Noah would agree with Grant and say that all the things Grant listed, were his favorites also. He loved Raiders of the Sea, but he is also loving Twenty and Ten the storytime book we are reading now. I just got done putting together a photo book of pictures of all his projects and Science experiment to give to him as a yearbook. It really is amazing how much he has done this year.

I just wanted to chime in and welcome you too! We're glad to have you here! :D We pray that will enjoy Preparing Hearts as much as we did last year. My son loved his books and thoroughly enjoyed his projects. He's been writing poetry ever since! :D
