A couple of questions...

Hi Ladies,

Just wondering a few things...what do those of you who have to turn in/keep portfolios for each school year put in yours? I didn't realize I needed to do one last year (1st grade, not using HOD) and want to make sure I cover everything I need to in it for this year (we are not required to turn them in in GA, but are supposed to keep them in our records). Do you include your whole History/Sci notebook and LA notebook or just samples from the year?

Also, DS 1 will be taking the Iowa for the first time at the end of 3rd grade next year and I was wondering what those of you whose children have to take it do to prepare for it? It will be his first standardized test, so I don't want him freak out!

Thanks so much for your input!

Jessica,

This will vary from state to state depending on what your state requires. Typically states like to see a beginning, middle, and end of year sample from the various subject areas in order to see growth. However, if you want to "Wow" your evaluator you could bring in the whole history and science notebook and just do beginning, middle, end samples for the other subject areas. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks, Carrie! That helps! :D I don't think GA has very many guidelines as far as end-of-the-year reports. It just says, "The instructor shall write an annual progress assessment report in each required subject area for each student." I guess I could just write that up and then place it all with his notebooking, etc.?
