O/T - songs to sing solo in church
I know that you all will be able to help me. God has called me to sing in church since I was a little girl. I did it some, but the started to really get nervous before I sang. Life happened, and I stopped. Last Sunday, I got up with the choir and they sang a song that touched me deeply. God laid it on my heart once more to sing for the church, and tonight is my first performance. I am signing "Lamb of God" because I love the song so much.
I am also scheduled to sing for a 5th Sunday "Singspiration" at my church next week and I am not sure what to sing. Can any of you give me some ideas? I can sing contemporary, but I have a high soprano voice, so the song needs to match that. I like a song that really picks up to high notes and such in the middle. I can't start out singing at the top of my voice, but I love building to them in a song. What are some of your favorites to either sing or hear sang in church by a soloist?
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Amazing Grace and I want to see a you tube video.

Hi
I'm new here and my name is also Rebecca. i think I would suggest Be Thou My Vision. My husband is learning to play it on his hammered dulcimer and I just love the melody. At Easter the church choir sang it in there Easter Cantata and it was wonderful. Just as long as you do not sing it with a organ. I can not stand the sound of the organ. I love the sound of the piano. I told my husband that when I die please only play piano music no organ. Lamb of God is a wonderful song.

Check out www.halleonard.com
they have all kinds of Christian songbooks - both Southern Gospel, Traditional Hymns, and Contemporary. Do you have a local Christian bookstore? They often have soundtracks to tons of music as well.

Have tried any of Sandi Patti's works? There are many beautiful songs that would fit the range you describe yourself as. "The More I Seek You" is another lovely piece (though I am not sure who the original artist on that). Definitely hit your local christian music /book store for performance tracks.. lol you can also scan through itunes for ideas too.
Hope that helps

Oh and "Shout to the Lord" is a good one too that would do, contemporary and awesome for worship. Did this one w/ a friend about a year ago. Still love it!

Re: O/T - songs to sing solo in church
Thanks ladies! I appreciate all of the suggestions. I am going to have to look up Sandi Patty - I had a friend mention her to me.
I love Amazing Grace! Last night, I sang "I am the Water" which is a beautiful song by the Perrys. I sang it up an octave and it worked out perfectly. I found a group of ladies who harmonize with me on Lamb of God and we had compliments galore on our practices. It does your heart good to sing for God and know that you are touching someone else in the mean time. Praise the Lord!
Right now, I am working on "My Redeemer Lives" by Nicole C Mullen. That is a tough song, but so worth it to sing - what a beautiful message!
I wish I could attach my recording of me singing Lamb of God. If anyone would like to hear it, I will be glad to send it to you. Just drop me a pm here with your e-mail address. It is just me, though, not the trio.
