Adding to LHTH?

Just looking for some thoughts. Our DD has down syndrome and is pretty delayed. We have been doing LHTH this week. She is loving it. I think she is ready for a bit more but I don't know if she is ready for LHFHG. We also have her busy little brother tagging along on the LHTH journey.

I am thinking of adding the Before the Code books(pre- explode the code), some math activites from Teaching Math to People with Down syndrome, and some Handwriting Without Tears work. Then when we have finished LHTH we will move onto LHFHG half-speed.

DH said we aren't going to be taking a summer break this year since we are really just getting started in our school year for both kids. Maybe a few weeks here and there but no big break. I am okay with that as we are just getting our routine going.

Anyway...just wondering if anyone has any thoughts for working with DD. I have thought of doing LHFHG half-speed now, but she really seems to be enjoying the letter activities.

Thanks!

I really like your idea of continuing on with LHTH but adding the things you mentioned. This seems to me to be the best of both worlds. You also won't be overloading her during summer, which is a time dc (and parents :D ) can often look forward to as a bit of a break. This would move your schooling along without making summer seem long. LHTH did such a wonderful job of preparing our dc for LHFHG. I think you'll find that to be true with your sweetie too. :D We have enjoyed watching the "Leap Frog Letter Factory" and "Leap Frog Words Factory" while our dc do LHTH too. They are inexpensive DVD's you can find at Target or on Amazon, and they teach the letter sounds in such a fun way. They pair nicely with LHTH and help pave the way for phonics, so I thought I'd just mention them. :) You certainly have some fun ahead of you with LHTH! We are on our third trip through LHTH with our third ds and loving it still. Have fun with it! :D

In Christ,
