I thought i read somewhere that when a child gets to be in the Dithor 4/5 reading level you don't finish all the books in one year.
Is that why there is a 4/5 suggested list and a 5/6 suggested list instead of a 4, 5, and 6 level list by themselves?

for example if child were doing
DITHOR level 2 in Bigger
Dithor 3 in Preparing
Dithor 4/5 in CTC Would you be doing all of the 4/5 book set that year?
then DITHOR 5/6 for RTR

or is there a continuation of the book set over to another year/guide?
How does the pacing work?

My son will actually start DIthor 2 about half-way thru the Beyond guide, does that affect things?

I am confused :?

What you may be thinking of is in Preparing and on up DITHOR is only scheduled 3x a week so you only get through about half the genre's. So my son did 5 of the genre's this year in Preparing and was using DITHOR 4/5. We will stay with 4/5 next year and finish up that student manual with the rest of the genre's. Once he gets to RTR then I will move him up to DITHOR level 6/7 student book. I use books from several different book levels for my ds. We actually have used some books from the 2/3 book pack this year and some from 4/5. I picked more based on what I thought he would enjoy. I don't know how DITHOR is scheduled in the guides below Preparing because we didn't do those.

DITHOR is scheduled 5 x's a week in Bigger Hearts. If you start it in Beyond, you can choose whether to start it 5 x's a week, or fewer times, with a minimum of 3 x's a week. I think it depends on the age of the child and the writing ability of the child. If the age were young and the child's writing had not caught up to their reading ability, I'd start it 3 x's a week and up it to 5 x's a week when doing Bigger Hearts. DITHOR is very flexible. :D Personally, I try to get through all of the genres and the Level 2/3 Student Book the year we do Bigger Hearts. Then, starting with PHFHG on up, I try to get through all 9 genres every 2 years. I choose either the Level 2/3 Student Book or the Level 4/5 Student book based on which I think fits each child better, and then move up to the next one eventually, with an overall goal of getting through each Student book at least once and sometimes twice. This flexibility in pacing requires some thought before you start, but it's well worth it as you can choose whatever fits each of your dc best. HTH! :D

Does this mean that it takes 8 weeks to complete one genre in DITHOR, instead of 4 weeks?

Pretty close to that, but not quite, because there are 20 days of plans for each genre. When doing it 3 days a week, it will take about 7 weeks (minus a day) to get through a genre. Most of HOD's upper core guides have 35 weeks of plans. So, you'll get through 5 DITHOR genres and may finish a tad early to boot. :D We sometimes use an extra day for the end of genre projects in DITHOR, so it usually equals out. Then, the next year, we either just schedule out the other 4 genres, or still do 5 with one repeat genre with a new book. HTH! :D
