Write with the Best and looking ahead

Hi all,

I simply wanted to share how much I LOVE "Write with the Best." It is so in keeping with my philosophy of learning and with everything else that I like about HOD. Just little nuggets of knowlede that gradually build upon one another. It makes it seem so easy!

I'm curious about the IEW Medieval Writing scheduled for RTR. Is it also a little dose at a time? And has Carrie mentioned anywhere her thoughts on what writing programs she is considering for after RTR.

We're at a point in our homeschooling and our year that everything is really coming together. Lots of connections...especially in language arts. What a blessing for all of us. thank you HOD!

Deltagal,

I'm so glad that you are getting a chance to enjoy Write with the Best! It is my son's favorite part of the day! :D He loves it too.

As far as RTR goes, we are scheduling Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons 3 times a week in smaller chunks of time with optional extensions on Day 4 for those who desire more. This will keep the pacing and amount of writing reasonable and in balance with the rest of the guide. After RTR we are still considering our options for writing. We do like the looks of The Exciting World of Creative Writing for one of the next few guides. We also plan to use Write with the Best II (likely at the high school grade 9 level), and are still pondering Story Starters and The Elegant Essay too. So, no firm decisions on writing yet. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

wonderful! I'm always interested in what interests you  I am impressed by the way Write with the Best 1 has the resources for you to re-use the material with different writings to study. I like having those additional recommendations at my fingertips.

On a different note, the Rod and Staff combined with Write with the Best are starting to prompt a lot of great conversations among my 2 oldest boys about writing. They're asking me LOTS of questions that I can't quite answer, but I'm excited to see their level of engagement.

Florence,

We have found the same thing to be true with our own boys. The combination of Rod and Staff and Write with the Best has spurred on many connections between grammar and writing, and my boys are seeing its direct application within their daily work. :D I am thrilled that you are finding the combination to be a good fit for your household as well. :D Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie

"Write with the Best" was a hit here too! My ds wrote his best creative writing pieces to date by doing "Write with the Best". I liked the pacing of 2 days "Write with the Best" and 2 days R & S English - perfect rotation for us. :D I have to share my son's last piece when I get the chance. It was a great end to the year, and it is amazing to me how far he came from the start of it. I'm so glad you loved it too! :D

In Christ,
Julie
