CTC Science???

Post by playschool » Mon May 03, 2010 8:58 am

Would this be sufficient for a 7th grader? My dd is not particularly the "sciency" type and just wondering if this would be enough or would we have to supplement...

The CTC Science is perfect as written for a 7th grader, in my opinion. My seventh grader is using it this year and she LOVES it (so is my 9th grader for that matter, although she will be doing Apologia General also). I had started my seventh grader last fall (before we found HOD) with Apologia General Science, since that's what was recommended in the curriculum we were using. But it was WAY too much for her and she really disliked it. It is great, it's just there is a lot there and I think it's better for older children. She has been happy as a clam since we switched to HOD science, and frequently reads me sections of her science books because she thinks they're so interesting.

Thanks for the input. I thought it looked pretty good for a 7th grader but wasn't sure. I actually bought Apologia General Science for next year but am very concerned that we will end up in the same boat as you did with your 7th grader. I want to challenge my children without overwhelming. That can be such a balancing act. I think the CTC science for my 7th grader would challenge her but not overwhelm her. Thanks again!
