DITOR with Dictated answers?

My dyslexic daughter is "ready" for the learning components of DITHOR, but the writing will greatly frustrate her. Would allowing her to dictate answers to me be an "OK" way to modify this for her or should be wait another year? She will be starting Bigger. Thanks!

Yes! I think it would be fine to let her dictate her answers to you! There is a bit of writing in the student book for DITHOR (which you do not use everyday in DITHOR), so I would definitely start out that way. If she does really great with her dictated answers to you after a while, maybe you could write her answers for her on a whiteboard, etc. and have her copy as much as she is able? I think sometimes that makes it not seem so overwhelming. Just wanted to make you aware, though, that Bigger has a bit more writing than Beyond, so you may have to approach some of the components in Bigger (copywork, notebooking, etc.) in a similar way. HTH! :D

I would agree with 3sweeties. :D I think when you have a child with different learning issues you just have to work around it this year. I do things like this for my dd with CP. Sometimes you have to just adjust things to keep them moving forward. I think she will really enjoy the program and will still learn this way. :D It's great that you are adjusting things for her this way. :D

My ds has mild cerebral palsy that affects his handwriting so he often dictates the DITHOR pages to me. This works fine. Sometimes we do the white board and he copies and if it is a chart with short answers then he will write. Since he has been doing Preparing I have to make sure that I balance his writing so his hand doesn't get too tired.

We did this when starting DITHOR for my 7 yo, and it worked like a charm. After dictating with me writing answers for him, we moved to doing half dictating me writing on paper and half him dictating and me writing on markerboard, him copying that last half from markerboard to Student Book. Finally, I just write the words he needs help spelling on markerboard and he writes the rest. This progression worked great, and I think your little honey will ease into well too! :D :D :D
