For those who have used Bigger and Preparing: For the vocabulary cards, is it better to use the 3x5 cards or the 4x6 cards?
Thanks!

I use the 3x5 cards and we put them in one of those index card binders. What I like about those is you can drop them and cards do not go flying. Either size will work though.

We've used 3x5, too, and put them in one of those little recipe box things.

We used 4x6, but that is because my ds typed his cards due to difficulties with writing in small spaces. I was able to find an index card holder for that size also so whatever size you want to use will work.

We use 4x6 because we are storing them alphabetically in a photo album.

I've never heard of an index card binder. Did you find it at an office store? I'm just wondering if it looks like the style of a photo album where you just drop the pics in. I have a problem putting the index cards in a recipe box because it all just gets stuffed in there. Thanks for sharing that idea!

Great ideas, thanks so much!
I've seen the 3 ring binders for index cards at my local Wal Mart in the office supply department.

oh, another thing I wanted to ask.
knowing how much info goes on the card could help me decide whether to go with the 3x5 or the 4x6.
How much info does the child have to put on the vocabulary cards for Bigger? Do they also draw a picture?

Also, does the child need to write on both sides of the card or just one side?
I like the idea of the photo book if we go with the 4x6, but I've also seen the 4x6 file boxes.

We use 3x5 for vocabulary and store in a index card box with alpha dividers. Works well to strengthen her alphabetizing skills!
Then we use 4x6 and a dollar store photo album for the Bible verses.

This is exctly what we did in Bigger. In Preparing the Scripture is copied into the Common Place book.
The length of the definitions can vary quite a bit. We haven't ever had a tight squeeze on 3x5 though. Your child will need to write the word, definition, & a sentence using the word (original or copied). We put all that on the lined side and then Grant drew a picture of the word on the back side. I'm sure that you could write the sentence on the same side as the picture though.
