ETC books or ETC online

Post by psreit » Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:26 pm

I was reading the post about doing ETC with TRL. That sounds like it may be something I will look into for dd. She is turning 7 next month and is still reading very little. I plan to do TRL over the summer and continue with it during LHFHG in the fall, but ETC sounds like it would be a good supplement. I was looking at ETC online. Does anyone use that? Would it be better to do the books? Just wanting opinions, since I never used ETC before. Thanks.

We have used both and it really is just a matter of preference. I will tell you that the online version is fun, but very repetitive. The "games" are the same for every level (so far anyway). The only "beef" I have with the online version is that the kids get "stickers" for each level to tell them how they are progressing and my ds gets extremely upset if he doesn't get the highest one. They have to be very, very fast in order to get move on to the next level and often it has nothing to do with how well they comprehend the lesson but how fast they are on the computer. Does that makes sense? I've had to do it for my ds many times in order to get him past the level. His computer skills just aren't fast enough yet even though he does know the material. If your dc likes to use the computer, ETC online would be a good choice and a nice alternative to pencil/paper work. Honestly, we do both. Some days he does the workbook and some he does the online version. HTH a bit!

Sue,
That does help. When my dd was doing the demo, she kept getting the same button. She was getting frustrated that she couldn't get something different, even though she got the blue ones since I was helping her. She didn't understand that they were the best ones :) She is not quick on the computer because of problems with her eyes. So, the workbook would, more than likely, be best for her. Thanks for your help.
