Just wondering what to do about extension books since DD will be 9 and completing Bigger (about half- we're on unit 15 or so) in 4th grade as a 9yo. With age range being 7-9 with extensions for 4th and 5th, I'm not sure if I should be bumping it up just b/c she's in 4th or not. I have most of the extension books already so that's not an issue. What I don't have, I could get some from the library.

I think I'd base that on whether it seems the she needs more work to do. If you think that she's learning & has enough to do with the skills in Bigger already, I'd just leave it as is. I know that you've said she really likes reading...so maybe you'd want to have her do the extra reading but not really extend Bigger by having her do the assignments that should go with them. Extra writing is NOT something that comes easily for her, right?

Right Kathleen! She LOVES reading, so I thought about adding it. But, you're also write that writing is hard for her. She's improved greatly over the last few weeks though just since getting more into Bigger!! I'm amazed! But, her oral narration skills still need practice. Maybe I should add a few of them then just have her do one oral narration per week? Or even a 1 oral and one or two drawn/captioned each week?

Carrie or Julie, do you think that's enough for a young 4th grader?

Tamara,
When writing the extension pack, we're thinking of it being targeted to ages 10-11. So, if your daughter is 9, we'd be thinking that she would be on the young side for the Extension Pack. If you desired for her to have some extra reading, you could definitely choose for her to do it, however it wouldn't be necessary until she is 10.
Blessings,
Carrie
