New to the group.

Post by Christi in Ohio » Tue Apr 20, 2010 1:02 pm

I am very excited about getting started with LHTH once my books arrive. We have a 12yo DS who is using Oak Meadow, a just turned 7yo DD who is blessed with down syndrome and our youngest son will be two early in May. DD has pretty significant expressive language delays and some behavior issues. DS2 is very verbal and a real busy go-getter sort of guy.

I was pointed to HOD when researching Oak Meadow for DD, two families recommended LHTH as being something they used with their children with down syndrome. I read a few posts on the message board and got a really good feeling about how the program might work for her. I can hardly wait. I am wondering about how many times we will end up doing it and how many times DS2 will be interested in doing the same thing. He will be tagging along at such a young age. But, I am just going to focus on doing the activities as presented and not trying to add on anything extra or change anything around. We have tried too many different things for both the older kids. I have concluded that I just need something all laid out for me. I am one of those who is always seeking just the perfect thing and wondering if something else might be better. No more of that for me.

Just wanted to introduce myself and I am sure I'll be around with questions as they come up. I would love to hear from anyone who might be using the LHTH with their child with down syndrome.

Blessings,
Christi

Hi Christi! :D Welcome!! I am so glad that you have found HOD- I think it will be just what you are looking for! And while I do not have a child with Down Syndrome  (although I have a very dear friend with a 5-month-old precious down syndrome baby)- I have used LHTH this year & will be again next year (& more as my other children get older) with my own kiddos. :D It has been a huge blessing in our house- everything is laid out & focused on God! You are in for a wonderful year- or years depending on how long God has you using LHTH!
Have a blessed day!

Hi Christi,

I think we have emailed before and I've seen you on FIAR. My little guy with down syndrome is 4 so he is not using the program quite yet but I am using HOD with my older kids and I have too have heard several places that Little Hands is an especially good fit for our kids. I look forward to sharing your journey and hearing how it goes with your daughter. Hopefully we will be behind you soon!
Beyond ds 2nd grade and dd 4th grade (with LA portions of bigger)

Christi,

I just wanted to welcome you to the board! We're glad to have you here! :D I also wanted to mention that through visiting with parents at conventions we have talked with many parents who have found LHTH, LHFHG, and Beyond to be very good for their DS kiddos. One mom that we see each year at convention has had her older DS daughter doing Beyond this past year, and she shared with us that her daughter is so proud to do it. The daughter came with her mom to get Beyond herself after choosing it on her own to be her program (after using LHFHG the previous year). :D She was so excited!

We pray that LHTH will be the fit your family is seeking! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
