RTR Extension Pack Question

Post by synchromom » Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:01 am

Hi,

I am considering having my 8th grade dd do RTR next year. We are currently using Beyond with our first grader and will continue with Bigger for her for next year.

My question is this - I realize that the extension pack books are scheduled in the appendix. Is there other assigned work to accompany these books or is it just a reading schedule? I am totally fine with it being a reading schedule. I am just curious to know if it has narration or notebooking assigned with it as well.

Thanks,
Sharon

My guess would be that it is like all the extension packs and that would be a reading list that is assigned with the regular unit. I know Carrie or Julie will answer when they get a chance but that has been my understanding of it. :D

Hi Sharon,

At the end of the guide along with the list of extension readings and schedule are suggestions/recommendations on incorporating oral and written narrations and a weekly drawing with a written narration. The guide recommends a certain number of days for each, but indicates it is optional. If you have an 8th grader you might want to consider using the recommendations.

Hope that helps. ( I should clarify this is how the CTC and Preparing guides are set-up I (assume) that RTR will be the same.)

Yes - the ladies have been right on target with their answers here. :D RTR will follow suit and offer a rotation of independent follow-up assignments. :D

Thanks for answering my question. Since we only have the Betond guide, I did not know how the extension books were set up. This helps me plan.

Florence brings up a really good point about narration. They need to narrate in some way and it is suggested in the other guides. Also it is going to naturally connect to everything else they are learning even if there is no direct activity per say to it. Everything intertwines and meshes so nice with HOD naturally. I think you are going to find that the extension pack sort of seems like it is sitting out there on its own but in practice it really adds a lot to the program. :D
