Switching from Math U See to Singapore

I'm think about switching from Math U See to Singapore, and I'm wondering where my ds would place. If we are finished with Math U See primer, would the next logical step be Primary Mathematics 1A? I didn't plan on switching programs and actually invested a lot of money in Math U See, but I'm beginning to think Singapore might be a better fit for ds' personality. He's very visual, not necessarily hands on, and sometimes the manipulatives are a distraction to him. Steve Demme, who leads the Math U See lesson, is actually starting to confuse ds, and honestly, having to change gears and watch the lesson on CD kind of messes up our flow. I would rather just explain it to him.

Thanks,
Tracy

This may help ... http://www.singaporemath.com/Placement_Test_s/86.htm ... is a link to the Singapore Math website for their placement tests. You can click on whatever level you like and take a look :D

Thanks, I just looked the link, and it looks like we can just start at 1A. Thanks for the help.

Just my 2 cents...I switched my son from MUS Alpha to Singapore in January. Based on the placement test, he placed in 1B. However, after doing the first few exercises of 1B, we had to take a break and focus on his FACTS (like +3 and on!). I ended up buying workbook 1A and we're working through it even though the beginning exercises have been review - He's getting a better grasp for the facts now instead of just drilling flashcards. :D

Thanks, I appreciate your 2 cents :) . After your post, I did some research, and I think I will start with the Kindergarten B book. If I find it too easy, we can always breeze through it. The books are inexpensive enough that I won't feel like I wasted a ton of money if it isn't the right fit for us.

Thanks again,
Tracy

Hi Tracy,

I am glad you are making the switch now instead of after MUS Alpha, my son got a little confused by Alpha with the solving for the unknown when we switched to 1A :o . It took him a while to do subtraction instead of the MUS way of solving for the unknown  ! We are now using Singapore 2A and all is well, he got it after some extra focus on subtraction. :D
Success and I love the fact that Singapore teaches mental math and the best thing with are Carrie her hands on activities. :D
