DITHOR with lower level reading books

Post by deltagal » Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:41 am

Hi all,

I've just been sorting books and I have quite a few of the books on the Bigger extension list that 13 yos has not read. However, he reads on about an 8th grade level. I would love to use them for my 13 yos DITHOR, but would this be a bad idea because of the lower reading level. Your thoughts?

Florence,

I enjoy mixing up the levels a bit with my oldest son, alternating something easier with something more challenging in DITHR. That may be something that would work well for you too. :D With the easier books, I let him move more quickly through them and schedule him to read several of them during that genre in DITHR. With the more challenging books we move more slowly and do it in smaller chunks. Just a thought! I also let my 8th grade son have a say-so in the books he reads for DITHR (within reason) as I lay the books I'm considering out for him to choose. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Of course! That's a great idea. Thanks for knocking the cobwebs off my brain :D
