Ok, I am not art-minded. especially when it comes to paint and appropriate paper. I want my kids to have good supplies. All I have here at the house are crayola watercolors and I have several bottles of poster paints. I don't know if those will do or if some other type of paint would work better.
Preparing Paint Supplies for weeks 2 – 6
Unit 2 - paint a rainbow - what kind of paint and paper
Unit 3 - paint cave art - what kind of paint
Unit 5 - paint the cartouche (which is made of air-dry clay) - what kind of paint
Unit 6 - paint the crook (which is made of paper) - what kind of paint
Thanks!

Re: Need help with paint supplies
We did our first few painting projects on regular paper with watercolors before we got some nicer supplies, and the difference has been significant! I'm in love with using the better supplies now and will always go to the trouble to get it. I found paper at a big craft store, Michael's (I don't know what you have in your area). I got watercolor paper, which is heavier than regular paper, and canvas paper, which is heavier still, both in extra large sizes. I always look for and use the Michael's coupons that come in the mail to help with the cost. I also use tempera paints or acrylic paints, both from Michael's, that are actually inexpensive. I also bought a variety of different brushes too. There's also an online store listed in the guides, I believe, that is supposed to have good prices, but I haven't used it.
I just love the better supplies because the finished product is so much prettier and it makes the kids take the project more seriously and feels more "real" to them. My kids love to get out the art basket now, and it has been so fun to use our great supplies to make beautiful art!

Re: Need help with paint supplies
Monique,
Thanks for writing to say what you did. I do want good supplies! We have a Michael's store here, I'll go there and look for the paint and paper you mentioned.
I have plenty of washable poster paint here at the house, but when we have used it, the kids have not been happy with the way the color goes on and looks thin. They used to be happy with it when they were younger, but just in the last year or two, my 11yo has not been happy with it at all.
Thanks!
