Should I start now or wait?
Should I start now or wait?
I just got my box, and I'm so excited. This curriculum is an answer to prayer. I really want to get started, but I bought the materials based on 1st grade. My ds is currently in kindergarten, and we are using our own math and handwriting for kindergarten, and even though he knows all the sounds of letters and is starting to read, we are going to start The Reading Lesson. My question is, do you think it is alright to do the Thinking Skills Book for 1st grade and the Science for 1st grade even though he is in kindergarten? I looked through them, and I don't think he would have any trouble.
My biggest area of struggle was finding a way to teach him God's word and to draw him close to God. I have tons of devotionals and children's bibles, but they just werent' working great for us. I would hate to put on hold all the wonderful things HOD has to offer just to wait until he is six.
Thanks,
Tracy

If you think he's ready, why wait?
You could take it half-speed for a few weeks and see how he does. Enjoy HOD!

Re: Should I start now or wait?
Thanks! I looked through everything and it is so awesome. I listened to the CD's and I just love them. The devotional is great. I feel so blessed. I might start LHTH and my 5 year old can listen in, and I can still continue with his math, phonics and handwriting. Maybe we should start there, and I can always see how it is going. Thanks for listening. I'm one of those people who will ponder the simplest things for days until I feel like I have it right. It is all starting to come together.
Thanks,
Tracy

Why not start?
How about half-speed? I love to start a new guide that way. You could just do the left page one day, and the right page the next day, doing phonics daily. You could do this for as long as you wanted.
I don't think self-restraint is necessary when it comes to teaching HOD and teaching about the Lord!

Re: Should I start now or wait?
This is what we'll be doing starting Monday. I bought the 1st grade package of LHFHG to start now b/c we have a baby due AND a move sometime in the fall so I felt I should start now. Though ds is 'officially' a K'er, he is already doing level 1 Saxon math and has completed Do it Carefully, has started Finding the Answers, and will complete his K handwriting in about 3 days. We are still working through our phonics program, Reading Made Easy. My plan is to start half-speed now and increase later when we have our groove at least getting half done. By January I expect to be going full-speed and finish by the end of the school year so he can move into Beyond for second grade. Anyway, all that to say...if you want to start now, I see no reason why you can't do it. Enjoy!

This sounds like a wonderful plan! You will love the precious time you will spend with your dc! You will quickly see that although LHTH covers preschool and K readiness skills thoroughly it is the Christian character building through you that makes LHTH a winner!
