I just wanted to say how pleased and impressed I am with the beautiful watercolor creations my 2 children are creating with these watercolor projects in CTC poetry. My daughter loves doing artsy things, and I have always felt bad that I haven't done enough of that kind of thing. Now she and her brother can follow Carrie's clear directions and come out with some very beautiful paintings. (IMHO) And so far, they have just been using watercolors you can buy at Wal Mart and cardstock. I finally broke down and ordered supplies from Millers Pads and Papers, because I think it will definitely be worthwhile for them to have the proper supplies.
I have even told both of them that I want to frame some of their best ones. It is so awesome to see your children doing these things all on their own and coming out with something uniquely theirs.
Thanks, Carrie, for including this in your poetry plans for CTC.

I concur with the enthusiasm over the beautiful paintings! I love the beautiful artwork my girls are making. The paintings have been on my walls (along with the LHTH Cheerio letters, and art from Bigger - my walls are quite full since starting HOD

) It's making me want to sit down with them and paint too.
I got extra-large canvas paper from Michael's, and they tape all four edges to the table when they paint, so when they remove it after they're done it makes a nice white border, and they are so gorgeous! I'm so impressed that Carrie's succinct instructions result in such a work of art.
Also sending my gratitude your way, Carrie!

Oh, Ladies! I am so blessed by this thread today. We are thoroughly enjoying our painting projects within CTC this year too, and my son is really growing as a painter. I have always loved art and wanted to be gifted in this area, but always felt my lack of talent.

So, I wanted the paintings in CTC to allow for each child's creativity to show through while learning some painting techniques as they paint. I'm so glad your kiddos are enjoying reflecting on the poetry through painting.
Blessings,
Carrie

I too am so glad for the watercolor painting in CTC!

Not because my ds's paintings are so beautiful, but because he would probably never learn to do this otherwise, and would not choose to do so on his own. He is not the artistic type, however, he is doing the nicest paintings he has ever done, in an art medium he may never have tried otherwise. He is learning so much and growing more in this area every day. I try not to compare too much, as his painting is nowhere near other dc's paintings I've seen from CTC. They are the best paintings HE has ever done when I compare him to himself, and that is what I am learning to love and appreciate about his paintings!
One of my great regrets from my education is that I did not receive much instruction in fine arts (though I do enjoy them now). I think having a CM style of education helps dc be more well-rounded and able to enjoy or at least converse intellectually about a variety of topics, including those about fine arts. So someday, when Wyatt and I are looking at paintings in an art museum - or something of a similar nature - when we read the artist painted in watercolor, my ds will know how amazing it is that the artist's painting looks like THAT, as he will know how much talent it takes to be able to paint that way.

Thanks HOD for helping my ds to step out of his comfort zone and become better at something he doesn't have a natural bent toward!
In Christ,
Julie
