No more spelling after Beyond?

I'm thinking that the reason their is no more spelling after Beyond because we are doing dictation in Bigger? And by writing more ds will learn spelling?

I had slacked off on our written English and was doing most orally. Then dh was concerned that ds didn't know how to spell door. He did spell it phonetically though (dore). The last few weeks I have stepped up the writing in English and I think that has helped him, along with the dictation.

Am I right in my thinking?

Thanks

Yes, you're right! The studied dictation works on several skills. Spelling, punctuation, capitalization, listening skills, etc. And as you're seeing, it's quite effective!

Okay, thank you. So if we are doing dictation and some English that is also working on spelling.

Is this why public school's have spelling every year? They don't have dictation?

Yes, that's right. :D Dictation replaces the spelling. Dictation is a CM skill, and many public schools haven't even heard of CM. Sad, I know! Anyway, Here's a description of it and comments about it:

We do a lot of R & S English orally too, but I do try to reserve a third of each section for my ds to write. :D Here's a link to how we do this, in case you're interested. We've found it to be a nice balance of oral/written:
