I was wondering if anyone could offer any insight between these two programs. I'm looking for something for my soon to be two year old. The Abeka Nursery says it's specifically for two and three year olds. LHTH goes all the way to age five.
The A Beka Nursery is almost $200!!! YIKES! WHereas Little Hands to Heaven, http://www.heartofdakota.com/little-hands.php seems to teach the same things but so much cheaper!
ABEKA Nursery vs. LHTH
Re: ABEKA Nursery vs. LHTH
I don't know about Abeka, but LHTH covers such an age range because there are instructions for "younger" and "older" children in the manual. I would say that it's for 2-3 OR 4-5 year olds depending on which instructions you follow. We are currently using it with my 3yo and my 5yo... we are adding in Kindergarten phonics, handwriting, math, and fine motor skills with the 5yo and using it as is for the 3yo... We started when the 3yo was 2 and she is doing great with it.
Re: ABEKA Nursery vs. LHTH
I have used a lot of Abeka. I never purchased the whole Nursery program, per se, but I used many of the different parts of it. It's fine, but like you said, pricey. And I think you would be happier with LHTH. It's fun, interactive, and it's quick.
It will allow you to have time to take nature walks, play outside, go to the park, cuddle together reading good books, and all the other fun things you get to do while they are still preschoolers.
The other thing for me is that Abeka expects you to plan and prepare for each day as if you are teaching a preschool classroom. LHTH, on the other hand, is open and go with very little prep time for you.
I think LHTH gives children room to grow and be children while still giving them some nourishment for the mind and soul. It's just enough, but not too much. And that's good for Mom and kids.
Hope this helps in making your choice. Sorry to sound so one sided, but I just look back and wish I had had the gentle teaching ways that I am trying to learn and implement now.

Re: ABEKA Nursery vs. LHTH
The options of resources and the way the plans are written make LHTH super flexible. I taught LHTH to my oldest when he was 3 1/2 yo. I taught it to my middle ds when he was 3. Now, I'm teaching half-speed to my 2 1/2 yo. I also taught LHTH at my church with big groups of dc from ages 2-5, and it worked awesome with all of these ages! The new LHTH packages lay out what resources you can choose to make it more appropriate for each age. LHTH has given each of our dc an incredible start to school. They love school right from the beginning, and are learning without even being aware of it. I'd encourage you to take a look at the 2-3 yo LHTH package and go half-speed. It think you'd love it, and your little pumpkin would too.

Re: ABEKA Nursery vs. LHTH
THanks everyone!
I really like the interactiveness and choices in LHTH!
I just got the HOD catalog yesterday. It was very helpful. Now I see how the options are broken down to closer to two years and then closer to five years. It seems like a very flexible program.

I think that you'll LOVE Little Hands to Heaven!!
I didn't use the whole curriculum, but used Abeka workbooks (without the teacher guide) for my oldest when he was preschool age. I used LHTH with my next 2, and we absolutely LOVED it!! There was no comparison for me! The Abeka things I used were just expensive workbooks (and I'm sure I could have missed something in the whole program). I did spend a ton of time playing with Grant as he was an only child at that point, so I don't feel like I missed out on anything with him. But doing LHTH with my younger 2 was just wonderful! I was interacting and playing with them as we did the rhymes, learned about God, acted out Bible stories... They loved it and so did I. It was very much hands-on learning. And at that point in my life I had 3 kids that I was homeschooling and my time was becoming much more precious.
LHTH helped me make the most of that time and make wonderful memories with my little ones!
Did I mention that it was just plain FUN for me and the kids??
If you want a peek at our days last year, you could check out the Weekly Check-In Folder on the board here. We were doing LHTH from August 2008-May 2009. I took a lot of pictures.
