Beyond for a 4th grader

Hello there,
Would Beyond be too easy with a 4th grader? I tried to do the Bigger with her earlier this year, and the History was just too much, she couldn't usually answer the questions, or narrate. (We are working on her narration skills). Will Beyond be a bit easier for here? I have thought maybe the biographical aspect would be easier than the strictly historical aspect of Bigger. (Or should I just try Bigger next year.) We would just do the Economy part of the guide. What do you think?
Thanks so much
Pamela

Beyond will definitely be easier for her to understand since most of the history readings are in story format. Though I'm unsure about using it for a 4th grader since my oldest is a 1st grader and I don't know what is expected for 4th grade. Have you looked at the placement chart yet for your child? That might help you make a decision. It might also help others advise you if you can tell them where your child falls on the chart. I know sometimes kids need to grow into the readings and it takes a few weeks. Especially if you are new to doing narrations and this type of program. Otherwise you'll have to wait for someone with more experience with older kids to help. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Hi, Pamela!
I am currently doing Bigger w/ a 4th grader. I think it might be helpful if you could also give us some more info about how your dd struggled w/ Bigger to allow us to know how to encourage you as well. I do know that I was going to take my 4th grader through Beyond and combine him with my 1st gr. ds and up the skill levels of Science and the 3R's for the 4th grader. I know some have done it! We actually decide to seperate them and so instead we started with Bigger for 4th grade due to how he fell on the placement chart. We have had a successful experience but it was a transition trying to listen to the Eggleston books. The language was new and took a different kind of "listening" for him but my ds has grown into it. I do believe I've heard other ladies say that Beyond's history is meaty and that the history would be okay and not "too easy" for a 4th grader. I'm sure others will chime in too.

Pamela,

We'd be glad to help you more with this, if you get a chance to respond with more details about your child and placement on the placement chart, especially the first page linked here: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php

The ladies have already been great in giving you some thoughts to ponder. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
