Fun activity today!

Post by 4froggies » Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:58 pm

I just wanted to share how much fun we had today. We are on Lesson 21 in LHFHG about Ponce de Leon. All three older kids (10, 6, 4) loved getting to be the "archeologist" and finding Ponce de Leon's helmet and cross. I actually had my oldest set it all up for my 6yo, which she thought was great fun! Great family time- these are the times I am reminded how much I love homeschooling. Thanks Carrie! I don't know how she comes up with these great (yet easy to do) activities, but I'm glad she does!! :D

How fun - a family archeological dig! :D I agree, I love the HOD activities and shudder to think what I may not be getting done without them. It was neat to hear about your family all getting into this and enjoying it together! :D

I agree! My son did that activity 2 weeks ago and LOVED it, too! Even my 3 yo daughter joined in on the "dig" and we repeated it several more times. Just before we left the school table for lunch, they hid the objects for ME to find in the cornmeal. Oh, how we love HOD!!! :D

4froggies,

I'm so glad to hear that you loved the dig for the lesson on Ponce de Leon. My boys truly loved that activity too! :D They loved digging for the cross and helmet too, and even my olders and littles loved to jump in and give it a try. :D

Thanks for sharing your excitement! You blessed my heart today. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We did that activity yesterday and my son really liked it, too. we used one of his Lego hats for the helmet. He said "can we do that again tomorrow?" i saved the set-up so we could do it again.
Both my kids really got into making the scene with the Indians with the grass, and foil river, teepees earlier in the Unit. My daughter (4.5) tags along on things fun like this. i was impressed by how much effort they put into them.
I don't know if anyone else did this, but each day we also got out the globe and found the place that the explorer went to. My son is loving looking at our globe and is getting better at finding places.
What a great Unit.

Jenn - I get our globe out and find the countries with my son, too. He will often say, "I know where that is, Mom!" when he hears a country's name - even if we're not doing school at that moment. :D
