What do I need for a 5th in Bigger?

I am going to use Bigger Hearts with my 5th grader - he is 4th now and I plan to go ahead and get it soon and start when it arrives. I plan to start DITHOR with him also but may wait to start in the fall depending how it looks when I get it. I'll probably do the level 3 books with him for extra practice. He is an ok reader but I am thinking he didn't pick up on his phonics as well as he should and now seems to get stuck on some words. I thought it might help him to pick up his reading pace if we start with a lower level...?

My question is what all do I need for him?? I know I need the Economy pack and science add-on. We won't need math or language yet because we'll finish up what we have for now. He just turned 10 so I will need the extension pack for him. Since I will be doing DITHOR do I need the deluxe package that's for bigger too?

If anyone could help me with this or point me in the right direction if it's already on here somewhere I would appreciate it!

Ashley

Ashley, the deluxe pack is actually to use with the Storytime part of the plans for Bigger...For DITHOR, you can use any books on your dc's level. There are also several book packs in the book shop at the HOD site, here:

Just scroll down to the third row and you'll see the book packs available specifically for DITHOR...

Hope that helps some. :o

Hi Ashley,

We are in the middle of Bigger this year with our 10 yr old. He loves it. I know yours will too. We did all the books in the Economy package, the Science add-on, Dithor wb 4/5 with teacher guide and sample book list (you can get this in a package), We mixed books from the level 3 and 4 reading level Book Packs so he could have a few challenging books (but it is easier to purchase one set), Cheerful cursive (although you may already have a cursive you are doing with your current LA), Little Pillows and Hymns for a Kid's Heart for Bible, and one of the Deluxe Package read aloud sets (or for us we mixed it up from the Boy and Classic set). You could choose to do extensions if you felt the need. Our ds has read a few of the extensions as extra history books, then I have ds orally narrate what he has read. The Teacher's Guide would instruct you more how to add the extensions. Because my ds is on the younger side for extensions we have lightened up on what was suggested.

When you get your guide it will tell you all the actual "school" supplies you will need (copy books, vocabulary box, etc.). It is very informative. If you need any extra help setting up, Julie posted some great pics awhile back of everything she did to get ready for Bigger. Happy book buying :D .

Hope that helps a little,
Cindy

Thanks! That helps a lot ladies! I was thinking with DITHOR that since I was going to start him out with the level 3 books I should get the level 2/3 workbook but I could really get the 4/5 workbook and use the level 3 books with it. Can't wait to start...wish I could just run to the store and pick it all up and start tomorrow!!
