high school program for your son

Post by pjsullivan » Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:09 am

I know i have asked a few questions about this already. I am just curious as to what programs you will be using for your son next year. I am still debating where to put my 13 year old. She was moved ahead when she was in school so by their standards, she would be ready for high school next year. I am debating about doing an extra year of history next year and do some basic high school credit work along side CTC -or RTR. I am just wondering what curriculum you are using for your son for his first year of high school. Hope i am not be too nosy!!
thanks

Pam,

I have to run right now, but we do lay out some of our son's plan for grade 9 in this thread. Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5400

We're also planning on VideoText Algebra for math, beginning at the end of this school year. Our son will do much of what I just listed in our geography plan on this thread for his geography credit. Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5668

He'll also likely be doing his credit for music appreciation in grade 9 with a probable combination of a book/CD on Appreciating Music from Bob Jones (although we won't' be using much of the Teacher's Plans that go with this as we find them overwhelming), paired with biographical readings from Spiritual Lives of the Great Composers and Palmer's Gift of Music, and listening to corresponding CD's about the lives of the composers paired with their music. :D

We are still at work on our plan but are moving in this direction for him right now. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Have to say that we have really enjoyed Spiritual Lives of the Great Composers. We also recently discovered Videotext Algebra and may use it for our daughter for either seventh or eighth grade! We also probably have the entire set of CDs you are talking about!

You continually amaze me with how you choose all of my favorite things! I wish I had discovered HOD when my kids were younger. I thought that I would just "do my own thing" for kindergarten with my son next year, but I may take the plunge and use HOD for him as well. He already enjoys listening to the left page of Bigger along with us. He has learned all of the verses and Hymns so far (as has my 3 yo daughter). He also came up with his own alliteration sentence when we talked about that in poetry! I was AMAZED! He also often names the rhyming patterns. We have thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks Carrie! I wrote a "placement" post regarding my kids. If you are going to continue to write high school options, I'd love to know how you'd advise me to continue with my daughter who will be in seventh grade next year!

School is going better than EVER!

I'll look forward to hearing how VideoText goes. We're pretty settled on using that for HS. I hope my boys are ready for it. I hear it's quite challenging.
