DS just read his first book!!

DS6 is only at about lesson 31 in Reading Made Easy. I got him some books from the library just so we can fill our time with reading, yet not move too quickly through RME since there's been some frustration. He just read a level 1 Ready to Read book (as twaddle-y as it may be, LOL...Ni Hao Kai-lan) and needed very little help! He read words like "waiting", "something", "play", "says/say", "ground", "where", "when",....and many others. He even made questions sound like questions and exclamations like exclamations. He didn't get frustrated and tried his best the whole time through 22 pages! Then asked to read another book! I even asked him to tell me about the story every several pages and he was able to narrate with great detail! I'm so thrilled (especially since he is well beyond K level and we haven't done hardly any school with him up this point for K this year!! And I thought we were so behind!!!!) I'm one happy mommy right now And very proud of my li'l man!! I just had to share this major victory with all my HODies.

I'm praising the Lord with you on this today! It is so exciting to see those little ones read their first real book. I can remember that moment with each of my oldest three kiddos as if it were yesterday. It does a momma's heart good!

How exciting!!! I too was pretty happy when I heard my dd read for the first time and so happy to be there to a part of it.

That is so exciting! It's something you never forget either. I still remember my dd reading her first book....Green Eggs & Ham. So we celebrated by making green scrambled eggs and fried ham for breakfast the next morning. The kids still talk about the "weird, green eggs". (and they WERE weird!!!)

Hooray!!! That is pretty exciting! I'm so glad you got to be there for that moment. There is nothing like teaching a child to read (as far as school goes, that is ). It is a gift to be a part of that, and not one every mom gets to receive. I'm so happy for you and your ds! Tell him all your HODie gal pals are cheering him on!
