As I recall, it does cover some beginning geography concepts. The child will locate European countries as well as the Americas as it relates to the history study. There is not a focus on states because most of the history covered is before the colonies became states. I hope I'm remembering clearly.

I don't have the time to look it up right now, but I do remeber that my boys did make a flash card like game to drill each other with the State Names & Captials. I'm thinking it was just before you study Robert Fulton... Hope that helps for now!

The geography in Beyond is all linked to the history reading. I was going to try to explain it, but found this part from the "Introduction" of Beyond probably explains it better than I could :) :

One day in each unit includes exploration of a geography concept that
stems from the history story. Concepts range from learning about the
continents and oceans, to tracing the routes of explorers, to reading maps,
and following directions. The included activities help students gain basic
geography skills while learning about the world around them.

We just finished Beyond and have now started Bigger Hearts. I feel like the geography in Beyond was a nice stepping stone to the geography in Bigger. They are different, yet build upon each other. I have enjoyed using books, globes, and maps to do geography, and also have liked that it's all linked so closely to what we're reading. It has been a favorite of my ds's in both guides, and so much better than the way I learned it when I was in school. :D

In Christ,
Julie
