History From HOD Guides Before BLHFHG

Post by psreit » Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:34 pm

I did it! I ordered Beyond. Anxious to see it. I feel I got the right level for dd, but was looking at the resources for LHFHG. I was thinking about the history, since that is what HOD is based on. DD has had lessons on creation and bits and pieces of other events in history. I'm not sure what she is getting in school, but I know social studies has a broad range, so it more than likely won't cover much of the history that Carrie covers, even in LHFHG. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to read the history books from LHFHG before we begin Beyond. DD will be in school until early June, so I could read the LHFHG history while she is in school, since she only attends K 3 days a week. Also, since I'm so anxious to start, it would give me something to do until she is finished with school :D Would that be beneficial for her, or won't it make much difference? I didn't get LHFHG because the contents of Beyond looked closer to where she is now in most areas. Would doing this give her a better foundation in history? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Pam - I'm so excited for you that Beyond will soon be at your doorstep, and more importantly in your home and in you and your dd's hearts! :D God just has such a way of working through these HOD programs. I do think it would be a great idea to read through the LHFHG history. It is a one year sweep of history from Creation to present day, so that would be neat. Of course, it won't have all the bells and whistles that LHFHG has with it, but that's not your intent here. So, I think if you have a desire to begin reading with your dd and doing some Christ-centered history books, this would be a super way to do it! :D

I think it would be fun to do with your dd, through the rest of the school year and summer, but I wouldn't worry that your dd won't be able to keep up in history if you don't do it either. If you have been good about reading the bible with her, than she will know that part of it (although you can never get too much of that right? :D ), and history in BLHFHG is just so awesome and broken into such small parts that she won't feel that she missed anything in early American history!
