We are now officially homeschoolers! Now I feel anxious though... because before it really didn't matter what we did... now I have to keep records and stuff, which I'm not terribly concerned about, but it's still the idea that I'm accountable now.
Thanks to HOD for making it easy to know what to do each day!!

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Prov 27:17
I do not have to keep records But I still do, Right in my manuel, sort of a just in case mode I'm in. But its been an Eye opener as I go though them again with My 2nd child to see my notes in the margins and remember the good days... and the bad ones LOL

I'm new to it this year too with a first grade boy (almost 7) using BLHFHG - and in NC too! We have LOVED using HOD. He loves school, especially history. I even ordered him more history books from the guide before the one we are using at Christmas because he begs for more. I almost wish I'd started him on LHFHG just because I hate now that we missed a guide!
NC doesn't require too much paperwork thankfully. I'm a bit nervous about the standardized test I have to give him soon, but I'm sure it won't be as big of a deal as I'm imagining it to be! I've been reading posts when I get a chance but never seem to make time to post. Hope to get better about that now that we're in our groove. Welcome!

Lora Beth - Hooray! I'm glad you're official now, but don't let that worry you. HOD has your back.

The manuals serve as the plans, so you can always turn in the table of contents/introduction to show what was covered. I'm so glad HOD takes away that worry for us as homeschoolers and makes it possible just to enjoy our teaching at home. So, have some fun - officially

- because you've some great days ahead of you!
In Christ,
Julie

Hi Carol! Welcome to the HOD Board!

It's wonderful to hear you are having a great year with HOD. We are as well!

Don't worry about the standardized tests. They are not as bad as one would think. We do the Iowa Basic Skills and have been happy with that one. I always remind myself that tests are only one measure of success, the day to day learning is more important anyway. However, HOD has done an excellent job of preparing our dc for standardized testing anyway.

I'm so glad you introduced yourself!
In Christ,
Julie

I'm not terribly concerned about the test... she's a young 7, in fact, she's not 7 yet, but we are doing the Woodcock Johnson with a group from church. There are so many homeschoolers at our church that this lady comes for a small fee and gives the test for us.
